Clare Kitson organised animation programmes at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in the early 70s and in 1979 became programme officer for the National Film Theatre in London. In 1989 she joined Channel 4, where she commissioned many award-winning animated films and supported schemes to encourage innovation and to give young animators their first professional opportunity. She left Channel 4 in September 1999 and completed the initial stage of research into 'Tale of Tales' in the context of a readership in Animation Studies at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design, University College. 'Yuri Norstein and Tale of Tales: An Animator’s Journey' was published in June 2005 and Clare’s new book 'British Animation: The Channel 4 Factor', appeared in November 2008. In 1999 she was awarded the ASIFA Special Award for her role in British animation and in 2008 she received the Animafest Zagreb award for outstanding achievement in animation theory.
Pencho Kunchev was born in Sofia in 1951. He graduated from studies in film and TV graphics at the Higher Institute of Applied Arts in Prague with "Sonata Facile" made from his drawings of Mozart's native town Salzburg. During the same period he illustrated a book of Bulgarian fables. In 1980 he started to work as animator and director at "Sofia" Animated Film Studio in Bulgaria. In 1984 he made "The Little Girl, the Kitten and the Wall Clock" which was presented in Annecy the following year. In 1996 he created "Romance about the Wind" which won the Bulgarian Union of Artists Prize and was invited to numerous festivals throughout the world. The series won a number of national and international awards. In 2001 he finished his film "Blue Eyed Moon" inspired by "Les Chansons de Bilitis" by Pierre Louys, which won the Golden Rhyton Prize for the Best Bulgarian Animated Film and prizes for the Best Short Film in Torino and Barcelona. He has directed children's workshops for animated film in Yugoslavia and France. He has been a jury member of many animated film festivals in Europe and Asia. Since 2004 he organizes the International Animation Day in Sofia. He also writes about animated films. Pencho Kunchev is currently ASIFA Vice President and President of ASIFA Bulgaria.
Daniel Markowicz is an owner of Lightcraft Animation studio – one of the most considerable in Poland, which works for the well-known advertisement agencies, film studios and production houses. Except standard sernice connected with modeling and 3D animation (Lightweare, Maya, 3D Max), off – line composting (AVID Media Composer), editing and on-line edititing (Discreet Smoke) and also ability of work over the sound of the film at the place as well as prepare digital emition tapes.
During his over 14 years-lasting career Markowicz produced more than 500 commercials. As a creative director and postproduction supervisor he worked over the postproduction of feature movies (‘Dzien Swira’, ‘Kariera Nikosia Dyzmy’, ‘Przedwiosnie’, ‘Sfora’, ‘Wtorek’), videoclips (for Acid Drinkers, Krzysztof Krawczyk, Goran Bregovic, Yugoton, Myslovitz), but also non-profit projects for Arcadius or Radiostacja.
From the very beginning of the IAFF ReAnimacja Daniel Markowicz is the resident member of the Main Jury.
Adriana Prodeus writes about arts and film. She is an author of a chapter about the latest Polish animation in a book called “Polish Animated Film” edited by M. Giżycki and B. Żmudziński (PWA, 2008). She permanently collaborates with “Kino” magazine and gives lectures about film for New Club of Film at Teatr Nowy in Warsaw as well as for Nowe Horyzonty Association. She prepares her doctoral thesis at PAN Social Sciences School and curates exhibitions. Her literary debut “Themersons” has been published by Swiat Literacki.
Cecilia Traslaviña was born in Bogotá, Colombia in 1960. She studied Textile Design, and worked as Art’s teacher with young people with mental and physical disabilities. Then she discovered animated film and it changed the course of her life, it became her passion and she started to study animation by herself.
Now she works at the Javeriana University since 2000 in the Visual Arts Department, as animation teacher, director of undergraduated works on animation and coordinator of Experimental Animation course. She had been jury’s member in international short film festivals in Colombia and gave a lecture about Colombian Animation in Animamundi, Brazil in 2004. Her last work ‘Almas Santas Almas Pacientes’ (‘Holy Souls Patient Souls’) has been selected in several international film festivals and is taking part in the Colombian experimental animation programme at 6th IAFF ReAnimacja. Selected filmography: ‘One more drink’, ‘Underdog’, ‘Once we were fishes’, ‘Holy Souls Patient Souls’.
