WITOLD GIERSZ
Witold Giersz was born on 26th February 1927 in Poraj, Poland. During World War II he was a member of Polish resistance movement. Having graduated from high school in 1948, Giersz studied economy in Katowice. Two years later he began working as an animator in a newly established animated cartoon co-operation "Slask", known today as Animated Cartoon Studio in Bielsko-Biala.
When delegated to Warsaw in 1956, Giersz established and trained a group of artists that was restructured into the current Miniature Film Studio after two years. There, the so-called Polish school of animation was born in the 1960s. In 1972 he started his studies in Film Directing Department at Polish National Film, Television and Theatre School in Lodz, and obtained a diploma in 1977. Between 1985 and 1992 Giersz worked for Animated Films TV Studio in Poznan as a director and an artistic executive.
Witold Giersz has made about 60 short animated films, for which he has received over 70 awards and distinctions at film festivals all around the world.
MARCIN GIŻYCKI
Historian of art and film, film critic, author of documentaries. Between 1979 and 1981 Marcin Giżycki was the editor-in-chief of a quarterly “Animafilm” – published by International Animated Film Association (ASIFA). He also worked for magazines “Projekt” and “Literatura”. Since 1988 Gizycki has cooperated with American Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, where he lectures theory and history of film and contemporary art.
He is also the author of several books on the subjects that he specializes in. Gizycki’s oeuvre includes: "I Am Providence! The Story of H. P. Lovecraft and His City" (1997), "The Island of Jan Lenica"(1998), "Travels of Daniel Szczechura"(2005).
ZBIGNIEW ŻMUDZKI
Born on 17.01.1950 r. in Lodz. Film producer. The founder of “SE-MA-FOR” PRODUKCJA FILMOWA, which continues the activities of the liquidated public Film Studio “Semafor”.
He studied the economy of industry at the University of Lodz (Department of Economy and Sociology) graduating in 1972. He also finished College of Film and Television Production at Polish National Film, Television and Theatre School in Lodz (1976). Since 1976, he had worked for 16 years as an assistant and as a production executive at a Film Production Company “Zespoły Filmowe” (former Film Production Agency), where he cooperated in the production of 25 feature films, among others “Barwy ochronne” by Krzysztof Zanussi, “Aria dla atlety” by Filip Bajon, “Szuler” by Adek Drabiński, or TV series such as “Przyłbice i kaptury”, “Pogranicze w ogniu”, etc.
He worked for a year as the production head at Film Production Studio in Lodz. In 1993 he became the vice-president and production executive at the Film Studio “Se-ma-for” in Lodz.
Since 2000 he has been the president of the company “SE-MA-FOR” PRODUKCJA FILMOWA as well as animated film producer. Among others, he produced a frequently-awarded film “Ichthys” by Marek Skrobecki and cooperated in producing “Peter and Wolf” directed by Suzy Templeton.
